Kilkenny defender Cillian Buckley looks set to miss the opening rounds of the 2019 National League.

Buckley, who captained the Cats last season, has been sidelined with a serious knee problem for some time now, sitting out club duty with his native Dicksboro for the past six months.

According to a report in today’s Irish Independent, the next steps for Buckley are “unclear” and he could be set to go under the knife to correct the problem.

Fellow defender Padraig Walsh is also on the sidelines with a knee injury and will miss Sunday’s Walsh Cup semi-final against Wexford, while attacker Bill Sheenan is understood to require an operation on his wrist that will see him miss most of the league campaign for Brian Cody’s men.
