A request by Waterford to host Munster SHC games outside the province next year was rejected at last night's Munster CCC meeting.

The Deise had to play all four of their Munster SHC round-robin games away from home this year due to Walsh Park's restricted capacity. With the planned redevelopment of county grounds not expected to be complete until 2020, Waterford proposed to amend the regulation whereby in the event a county is unable to host home games, it would be possible to nominate venues outside the province.

However, this proposal was defeated, thus scuppering Waterford's hopes of staging their home games against Clare and All-Ireland champions Limerick in Nowlan Park, Kilkenny, which is more convenient to many of their supporters than the Gaelic Grounds or Pairc Ui Chaoimh are.

According to the Munster Council, "discussions are ongoing in relation to Waterford hosting their 2019 Munster Senior Hurling Championship home games versus Clare and Limerick in Walsh Park Waterford."

Waterford's others games in the 2019 Munster SHC round-robin series against Tipperary and Cork on May 19 and June 8 will take place in Thurles and Pairc Ui Chaoimh respectively.
