Kilkenny minor manager Richie Mulrooney has never quite experienced anything like this year's campaign.

The All-Ireland final against Galway on August 19 will be the Cats' 10th game of a marathon campaign which has been elongated by a new Leinster championship stucture and their defeat to Dublin in the provincial final.

"It's amazing that we've now played nine games. I was last in charge of the minors from 2008 and 2010 and over the three years - and we got to the All-Ireland final in all three years, and won two of them - we played 16 games. So that's how much things have changed," Mulrooney told the Irish Daily Star after yesterday's semi-final win over Tipperary.

"To be coming back to Croke Park for our 10th games, well, I'll tell you one thing - the boys will look back on this year as the year they really started their Kilkenny careers. To get 10 matches together, where each one of them is so important, is absolutely fantastic."
