Cork 2-19

Kilkenny 0-18

Full forward Dan Mangan scored goals in each half as Cork dethroned Kilkenny at Nowlan Park to be crowned All-Ireland intermediate hurling champions for a ninth time.

In what was the only game to be played in this year's intermediate championship, Mangan struck for his first major after just six minutes to give the Rebels a 1-2 to 0-2 lead. The hosts hit back with a brace of James Bergin frees and a point from midfielder Paul Henneby to restore parity by the 10th minute.

But the wind-assisted visitors then took control with scores from Cormac Murphy, Michael Collins, Stephen Condon (free) and Jack Walsh to lead by 1-10 to 0-8 at the break.

With Condon accurate from frees, Cork continued to hold the upperhand after the restart and had stretched their advantage to 1-16 to 0-13 by the end of the third quarter.

Kilkenny closed the gap to three points before Mangan raised his second green flag in the 50th minute to put the result beyond doubt.
