The Late Willie Aungier
Ballyteague GFC were saddened at the passing of one of their longest serving and loyal members, the late Willie Aungier.
A kind and honest gentleman, Willie was a life long pioneer, a noted fiddle player, with his sons Declan and Colm very well known as outstanding musicians down the years. Willie also had a keen interest in politics.
Born and reared in Littletown, Willie set up home in Allenwood Middle, when he married in 1965. Along with late father, Bill, he played a big part in reforming his beloved 'Larks' in 1951, after Ballyteague had been out of existence for some time, with his father taking on the role of Chairman.
Willie was elected club treasurer and gave trogan service for over 30 years, retiring in 1980.
Looking after finance in difficult times, he often told the story of a club dance in Allen Hall in 1956, to raise funds when such a large crowd attended, plans to have a raffle on the night, had to be dropped because the ticket sellers had no room to sell the tickets.
Willie gave great service to the club and was a popular gateman down the years. He represented the club in the scor competitions for many a year.
Vice President for a long period, he was honoured as the Club Hall of Fame winner only last November, a well deserved award indeed in recognition of his dedication and loyalty to Ballyteague GFC.
The club extend sincere sympathy to his wife Ann (Dote), sons Liam, Declan and Colm; his sisters, brother, and all his relations and large circle of friends.
