The Late Sean Collier The sudden death of the Very Rev. Canon Sean Collier recently caused widespread shock to people in the Errill area. The late Father Collier was appointed to the Rathdowney Errill parish in the mid 1950's coming from Kilcullen, County Kildare. When he arrived in Errill he transformed the area for young and old. He first looked after the youth starting a boys band with a membership of fifty, also a social club for young and old. He founded the St. Bernadette hall by building a club house and converting the old school into the present hall. He also got a new school build during his time in Errill. His biggest success in Errill was in 1962 starting a group water scheme for the area. The first group scheme in the country starting with ninety members and at the moment with over two hundred and fifty members. Due to Father Collier's hard work organising and getting the people involved in the scheme. He also took over the Erill hurling club from the late Father Woods training and manager with the late M.J. Campion. As this was over fifty years in the past most people would not have known the work and service as a priest that the late Canon Sean Collier gave to the people of Errill. May he rest in peace. Members of Errill Water Scheme Hall Committee Errill C.A.A. club and former members of the boys band formed a guard of honour at his funeral in Rathdowney with members of the Rathdowney Golf Club.
