The Kildare SFC final on October 20 will be another all-Newbridge affair after Sarsfields and Moorefield cleared the semi-final hurdle at a rain-soaked St Conleth's Park today.
In the first part of the double-header, Sarsfields produced a strong second half performance to defeat Celbridge 0-9 to 0-5. The sides were level at 0-3 apiece at half-time, but the Sash - who are managed by new Wicklow boss Davy Burke - gained the upper hand after the restart thanks to scores from Caoimhin McDonnell, Ben McCormack and Barry Coffey. Paddy Brophy scored three pointed frees for the Dublin-border outfit.
Goals at the start of each half from Niall Hurley-Lynch and Eanna O'Connor helped three-in-a-row chasing Moorefield to a thrilling 2-10 to 1-11 victory over Athy in the other semi-final.
With O'Connor in fine scoring form, the holders built up a commanding 1-9 to 0-4 lead at the break and looked to be home and hosed when the Kerry native netted within a minute of the restart. But Athy replied with a goal from Niall Kelly, while three points each from Darroch Mulhall and James Eaton made for a nervous finish for the Moores, who are through to their fourth final in-a-row.
