Naas captain Paul Sullivan believes that they are a better outfit this year than in previous campaigns.

Sullivan stressed to the Leinster Leader that they are now capable of ‘winning ugly’, something that perhaps let them down in the past as they look to win their first SHC title since 2002.

Standing in their way are a Coill Dubh side that know all about winning and this has set the scene for an intriguing Kildare SHC final on Sunday.

“It’s been a big part of this year in comparison to previous years when we needed to be more doffed in our play,” said Sullivan.

“I think we’ve learned to win ugly and to be able to dog out a victory when games are tighter.”

He added: “We’ve been under pressure in a few games this year where we’ve had to dig deep to get a result; we’ve hurled well at times but equally we’ve shown lots of character in tight games where we’ve been able to win differently.

“It’s all about building and bringing something from each game into the next; we’re into the final now so we’ll be drawing on everything that we’ve done so far in preparing for Coill Dubh.”
