O'Neill: we're going to Croker to win

Cian O'Neill insists Kildare will travel to Croke Park next Sunday with the intention of beating Dublin.

Many Kildare fans would settle for an honourable defeat against the five-in-a-row chasing Dubs, but O'Neill was bullish about his side's chances of causing an upset after yesterday's impressive Leinster SFC quarter-final replay dismissal of Longford in Tullamore.

"We are going to win that match, we are going to perform," he told the Irish Independent.

"And I think if we didn't perform today but won you'd be kind of saying 'Jesus…' and I can kind of see the context of your question there. But I think when you do perform, everyone just grows another 20% and I think that's what you need to have going into play a team like Dublin, you need to have belief and confidence and that's what we took from today, not just the win but that belief as well."

The Kildare manager added: "You have to go into every match believing you can win, it doesn't matter who it is. The nature of the game of football is that in any one day if you perform to your best you are in with a shot."
