SF challenge: All square between Kildare and Roscommon

April 16, 2019

Kildare's Paddy Brophy

Kildare 2-18
Roscommon 4-12

Kildare and Roscommon couldn’t be separated in this evening’s senior football challenge clash in Robertstown.

A Paddy Brophy goal on the 70-minute mark saved a draw for the Lilywhites after having trailed by 2-6 to 0-9 to the visitors at the half.

Points from Fergal Conway and Jimmy Hyland steered Kildare – donned in their snazzy new alternative jerseys for the first time – into an early two-point advantage before Roscommon hit the net with a penalty in the eighth minute.

The Rossies netted again on 31 minutes to take back the lead for the interval following a hat-trick of Eoghan Flaherty frees and they’d head the hosts until Jimmy Hyland’s point flew over in the 46th minute.

Neil Flynn’s frees nudged Cian O’Neill’s men in front again until another goal from the blue and primrose in the 58th minute which was almost immediately cancelled out by Brophy at the other end.

The Connacht men notched their fourth major on the hour mark and looked set for the win until Brophy had the final say in this entertaining contest.
