The defence of Moorefield’s Leinster club SFC title is well underway as manager Ross Glavin looks forward to their clash against Portlaoise.

The Kildare champions were in outstanding form as they brushed aside the challenge of Westmeath champions Mullingar Shamrocks with relative ease.

This was a polished performance by a side that is well set up, has a good work rate and can take their scores and most importantly will take some beating in this club championship.

However, they will face a tough test in the provincial quarter-final against Portlaoise who they met in last year’s campaign also, with Moorefield just shading the contest in the end.

“Everyone knows that Portlaoise are an excellent side and they will relish coming to Newbridge on Sunday week, but now we have a two-week break; remember we had a very short turnaround time from last Sunday making the game against Shamrocks a tricky one; just seven days after winning a county championship, so that will certainly be a big help to us and give us an opportunity to assess any injuries and get them cleared up before the game,” Glavin told the Leinster Leader.
