Work on the redevelopment of St Conleth's Park, Newbridge could start as early as next March.

It is expected that the €6.5 million redevelopment would take in the region of 12 months to complete meaning that Kildare would have to find an alternative venue for their NHL and NFL games next year.

Kildare County Council have given the go-ahead for the plans, but it will be another four weeks before the full approval is signed off.

The tender process will then proceed and this could take between four to six months before a decision is made.

In the meantime, the Kildare County Board will have to make plans for where to play their 'home' games with one solution being that they play all their games away.

A number of fundraising initiatives will be launched over the coming months in order to help finance the redevelopment work.
