Healy, John

September 13, 2006
The late John Healy It was with great sadness that Tarbert and North Kerry GAA followers learned of the death of John Healy (Tarbert and London). A man with a great passion for the GAA he was in poor health for a number of months in London where he resided for the past 20 years. John's wish was to come home to Tarbert and that was fulfiled with the help of his family and friends on both sides. However his illness was so grave John went to his eternal reward on Saturday morning, August 26th, 2006. A former chairman of the Tarbert GAA Club in the early eighties as well as a selector with the senior team. John was seen regularly transporting players of all ages the length and breath of Kerry. He fulfiled his biggest ambition in 1983 when under his chairmanship Shannon Park was officially opened by the late Frank King RIP, former Chairman of the Kerry County Board. John worked as a carpenter and put in many days redeveloping the dressing rooms and making sure that the first stand in Shannon Park would be in operation for the opening. As I have already said John was a keen follower of Gaelic football and he returned home on regular basis supporting his native Tarbert, and Kerry and especially during the North Kerry Championship, Munster Championship and All-Ireland finals. The Tarbert GAA club formed a guard of honour and shouldered John's coffin to St Mary's Church and like wise where John John was laid to rest in the New Cemetery which over looks Shannon Park where John spent many happy hours. Mike Wren from Tarmons and a former Tarbert player gave the grave side oration. To his brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephew and many friends: The Tarbert club and the North Kerry football board wish to express their deepest sympathy.
