Keane, Sean

February 20, 2005
The late Sean Keane At the young age of 47, it is with heavy hearts that we bid a fond farewell to a great friend and brother, and a thorough gentleman. Sean, son of the late Dennis and Nan Keane, was one of nine children. Tragically, his brother Pat also died young - he was just 42 when he passed away 11 years ago. Having completed his studies in Anabla NS he went to work for various farmers he loved farm work, particularly cutting silage. His love for music and dancing was evident from a young age when he was a junior member of the Kilcummen branch of Comhaltas when it was founded in 1973. He was also a member of the first set dancing group to represent the branch. He also had a great passion for football and played for Kilcummen. Sean held the Kilcummen and Kerry colours close to his heart, never missing an opportunity to come home for a Munster of All-Ireland final. His former club, Kilcummen GAA formed a guard of honour at his funeral. He worked in Pretty Polly for some time before moving onto O'Sheas Tyre Centre for a few years, and from there he went to England. Family, friends and cousins were very important in his life, and he made a point to come home to the funerals of same. He enjoyed meeting up with everyone, having a few pints and the craic. A lot of his friends made it home for the funeral, and came from around the country, including Drogheda, where his partner Mary lives. The family members who went over for his remains will never forget the kindness shown by his wonderful and wide circle of friends in Brighton, England. A special thanks to Mike O'Shea and father Tim for their professional help in bringing Sean's remains home. He was laid to rest in Gneevguilla cemetery with his parents on Friday 28th January. He will be sadly missed by his sisters, his brother, nieces and nephews, and in-laws. May he rest in peace and in the words of the song; "We'll meet again my friend, somewhere down the line, Who knows where and when, another place, another time We'll share a few old songs and memories on my mind Yes I know we'll meet again my friends, somewhere down the line."
