The Late Robin Quinlan
RESPECTED and well-loved, Maurice 'Robin' Quinlan, of Kenna House Waterville, has passed away. Robin died November 2nd, All Souls Day, in the company of his family. He was 67 years-old.
Born a December baby in 1937 in Waterville, Maurice Quinlan was known as 'Robin' throughout his life. He attended school locally in Waterville before moving to Dublin, where he studied agriculture in college.
On graduating, Robin joined the Department of Agriculture. He was first based in Dingle and went on to work in Co Leitrim and Schull, Co Cork before returning o Waterville in the late '60s t take over the family place.
Gaelic football was just one of Robin's great passions. He was regarded as a fine player and played with Dromid Pearses, Waterville, Leitrim and Schull. Wherever he went he made long and lasting friendships. And in his later years, somewhat appropriately, Robin turned tot he gentler sporting pursuits of cards and pool.
Robin Quinlan was a tireless, dedicated farmer. He was a member of many organisations including the local IFA and he was instrumental in setting up the local Comhar Cumann Naomh Fhionnain (co-op).
The cattle mart in Cahersiveen was another of his interests. He was a great judge of animals and a frequent winner of prizes for the quality of his sheep and cattle. After playing a significant role in the establishment of the Cahersiveen mart he continued to act as treasurer for many years.
Described as a wise counsellor who was always available, he discreetly advised any who sought his willing and patient ear.
In times of need of a helping hand, whether a neighbour or friend, alone or ill, he was ever-thoughtful and a dependable caller, generous with time and energy.
The river Inny, where Robin and his family had fished for generation, held a very special place in his heart. When he was not on it, he was looking down on it.
And appropriately, on a lovely November day, his ashes were spread on the river and flowed with the tide.
The foundation and centre for his family, Robin Quinlan will be greatly missed by brothers Gerald and Michael (Jackie), sisters Ann and Tess, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and many friends and neighbours.
