Kerry GAA star Shane Enright discusses his daily routine with John O'Brien.

Morning

What time do you get up at?

8am

How long do you sleep for?

8 hours

What do you eat for breakfast?

Weetabix with some fruit and a yogurt

Do you train/exercise in the mornings?

I go to gym some mornings before work. However I prefer the extra hour in bed and try and get my gym/exercise done in the evening as much as possible.

Are you in college/work? What are you studying/working at?

I am working as a bank official with Bank of Ireland

Do you have a long commute to college/work?

It depends on where I'm based as I am on the road a lot throughout the year

Is it hard to balance life between college/work and being an intercounty footballer?

It can be challenging at times but Bank of Ireland are good to me. They give me a bit of leeway here and there to ensure that I make training etc.

Mid-morning/afternoon

Do you go to the gym in the morning/afternoon?

I usually try and get my gym session done after work in the evening when possible.

How many times a week do you go to the gym?

Twice

What do you do in a typical gym session?

It all depends on what time of the season it is. Heavy strength work during the off season. A mixture of power and strength work during the season while playing competitive games.

Where do you work out?

We have a gym in Fitzgerald stadium in Killarney.

What would you eat for your lunch?

Chicken and pasta on training days. Soup and a sandwich non-training days.

What does your diet consist of? Do you have to be very careful with what you eat?

Plenty of carbs on training days to help fuel the body. Plenty of protein after training to help the body recover. I am lucky that I don't put on weight easily so can get away with eating a little less carefully in the off season.

Do you drink much water? How much?

Yeah I try and drink between 2 and 3 litres a day.

Afternoon/Evening

What time do you get home from college/work at?

5.30pm

What do you usually have for dinner?

Chicken/beef/fish, potatoes and veg. Stir fry's etc. I try and mix it up a bit.

What time do you have County training at?

7pm

Where do you train?

Fitzgerald stadium during the summer

Is there anything in particular you would focus on in training yourself?

I try and focus on my sharpness as much as possible especially coming into big games. Being able to move your feet quickly and turn with a forward quickly is very important in the full back line.

How often do you train a week?

5 times between gym and pitch sessions

How long would a typical training session last?

Between 1.30 hours and 2 hours

Do you find it hard to motivate yourself for training sometimes?

It is always hard coming back in the winter months and getting through the hard slog of getting fit again. But when the big games are on the horizon that's all the motivation you need and it's a lot easier.

Would you often treat yourself with a takeaway/Chinese or a few pints? Or does this totally have to be cut out of your diet?

Now and again after a big game perhaps I would let my hair down a bit and enjoy myself but once we are back into training the following Tuesday its back to business. Obviously in the off season you have to enjoy yourself. Players have to have a life outside of football too.

What do you do to help take your mind of football?

I like to get out for a round of golf when I can find the time. Or just relax with friends.

On a typical day what time would you go to bed at?

Midnight give or take
