Doyle, John

July 03, 2013
Tributes poured in from across the county on Thursday as the death of Killarney man John Doyle (39) shocked the community.

John was best-known for his heroics on the sporting pitch, having won almost every achievement possible with his beloved Killarney Celtic Football Club, along with a great career playing for Spa GAA in football and winning a Hogan Cup medal for St Brendan's College.

However, to wife Lynda and daughter Ruth he was a hero in a different sense. Having only been married to Lynda for three years before being struck down by leukaemia, friends said it showed the man's true character to fight through it for so long
and remain strong for his family.

John's popularity shone through when, on New Year's Eve 2011, the clubs of Killarney Celtic, Spa GAA and Killarney Athletic came together in bid to help fundraising for his treatment. The night not only served to help the costs incurred from fighting his cancer battle, but also as a show of unity and was successful in lifting his spirit in such a difficult time.

He will be sadly missed by not only the sporting the community, but all who knew John.
