Dedicated family man with a melodious voice

The late Peter Christopher Langan

1935-2013

It was with regret the news was received in the parish of Tarbert of the death of Mr. Peter Langan, Banbury, Oxfordshire and formerly of Chapel Street, Tarbert which took place at his residence on January 9, 2013 after a short illness.

Peter, who was aged 77 years was a popular member of an old established and well known local family, he was son of the late John and Rita Langan.

In his younger days he enjoyed the outdoor life, the family home was always an open house for many children, it was the meeting house when preparing to go hunting rabbits, going out in the Wren, football games and other activities. He was wing forward on the 1952 minor team that won the North Kerry Championship.

Peter emigrated to England in the early 50's where he met his wife Veronica and they got married in 1961. In 1968 he returned to his native Tarbert for three years with his wife and family. During his years back in Tarbert, Peter was secretary of the local GAA Club, and was also a member of the choir in St. Mary's Church - he is still remembered for his melodious voice.

On his return to England he started work at Encase in Banbury and due to his obvious talent and extremely high standards he became Works Manager which saw him travel across the world expanding the business.

Whilst these were exciting times they were tempered by him desperately missing his family. Peter's success not only benefited his own family but also his fellow man and in particular his
countrymen whom he befriended, supported, employed or found employment for through his contacts.

He was a man of quiet and gentle disposition with a good sense of humour, he will be sadly missed by his wife Veronica, daughters Anne, Ursula and Collette, son Paul, grandchildren, brothers Maurice and Joe of Tarbert, sisters Mrs. Norma Kelly, Glin, Mrs. Roseanne Lang and Mrs. Mary Gala both of Rochester, sons in law, daughter in law, brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends to whom the sympathy of the community is extended.

Many friends and relatives attended the funeral mass and burial which took place in Harwich Hill Cemetery on January 18th. Peter was pre-deceased by his brother Larry, Tarbert and nephew Joe Tedesco, Rochester. Months Mind Mass will take place in St. Mary's Church, Tarbert on Saturday 9th February at 5 p.m.
