The late Michael Deane

Michael Deane was a popular Ballymacelligott man who was well loved and respected in the community.

He was born to Dick and Mary Deane in their farmhouse in Coolnadeed in 1946. He had one devoted and loving sister Judy (McMahon) who is married and living in Listowel. Michael went to Ballymacthomas school and later to CBS/The Green, Tralee and then on to Pallaskenry Agricultural College.

Michael was an avid lover of sport and played football for The Green, Pallaskenry, Ballymacelligott and later when on to coach Ballymaceligott underage levels
bringing the under 12's team to a County Final in 1989.

Michael farmed the family land in Ballymacelligott and also worked for a number of years with Ardfert Quarries as a driver and also with Tony Lambe Glazing.

He took over the running of the family farm in 1984.

He married Kay Madden in 1974 and they went on to have four children Richard, Paul, Julie and Muireann. Michael was very involved in the local community and
was well known for being able to assist those in need.

He was Chairman of the Chernobyl Children's Fund Tralee and District for a time and assisted in bringing over a large number of Children from Belarus to Tralee each year for medical treatment and to enjoy the fresh Kerry air.

Michael really enjoyed his time when he went to Belarus to meet with some of the local organisers and children that he had helped over the years.

From 1992 Michael worked with Kay in Madden's Grocery Shop in Milk Market Lane and later when on to transform the shop into an antiques business.

Michael was always available to provide a cup of tea and listen to the many customers and friends who popped into the shop.

Michael had a love of nature and land.

However above all, Michael will be remember as a loving husband and father.

Michael passed away peacefully after a short ilness surrounded by his family.
