Sheahan, Patsy (Mick Dan)

January 25, 2012
There was a great sense of shock and disbelief throughout Glenbeigh and surrounding neighbourhood when news spread of that death of Patsy (Mick Dan) Sheahan on Tuesday, December 27 last.

Patsy was born on February 22, 1935 to Michael D and Mary Sheahan and was the youngest of a family of five. He attended Glenbeigh National School and went on to work on the family farm. Patsy was just 18 years of age when his father died suddenly, leaving him to take over the running of the farm with his late brother Dan Joe. They worked hard throughout their lives, from dawn to dusk and were extremely proud of their achievements.

From the days of the horse and plough to the latest model of new tractor and machinery, Patsy took every opportunity to reclaim the land and improve his farm.
Patsy met Kitty O'Shea, the love of his life, in the Emir Ballroom, Glenbeigh. Love blossomed and they were married in April, 1963. They were blessed with six children - three boys and three girls. Patsy was also blessed to meet all his grandchildren, whom he was very proud of.

Patsy lived life to the full and enjoyed many a social occasion with family and his many friends. A great fan of Irish music and dance, he especially enjoyed a good lively wedding and party.
He equally liked to spend quality time at home in the company of his family. Patsy had a keen interest in Gaelic football at both local and county level and enjoyed discussing the outcome of matches.

Patsy was extremely proud of the fact that he never smoked or drank alcohol throughout his life and took great pride in openly displaying his gold pioneer pin, which he received on January 11, 2002.
On St Stephens ngiht, while sitting by the fireside with his wife Kitty, Patsy remarked on the lovely Christmas he had, surrounded by his family. Sadly this was short lived, as Patsy died suddenly on the morning of Tuesday, December 27.
Shock and disbelief spread throughout the neighbourhood as word broke that "Patsy Mick Dan" had died.

Patsy was waked at his residence, Ballinakilla Lower, Glenbeigh, before removal to St James's Church, Glenbeigh on December 28. He was laid to rest after Requiem Mass on Thursday December 29 in Ballinakilla graveyard, a stone's throw away from the farm he loved so much.

Patsy is sadly missed by his wife Kitty, sons Michael, John and Pete, daughters Mary, Hannah and Kathleen, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, sister Teresa, brother Michael, nephews, nieces, many relatives and friends.
