The Late Peter Cronin

Peter Cronin of Ballygamboon, Castlemaine and also of Convent Walk, Ballybunion, died suddenly on Friday, May 20. aged 57.

Peter was one of 11 children born to Kitty and Patrick Cronin and was pre-deceased by his brother Joe, five years ago.

After leaving school Peter worked in Burlington Industries at their plant in Clash, Tralee, following which he emigrated to London in 1974 where he worked as a bricklayer for many years.

He returned to his native Kerry in 2004 and settled in Ballybunion. He worked as a caretaker in Convent Walk and got involved in the local community.

Peter had a natural generosity of spirit and always gave a helping hand to those in need. He mad many good friends in Ballybunion.

Peter had a great interest in Gaelic football and played underage for the Milltown/Castlemaine GAA Club.

He continued to follow the fortunes of Milltown/Castlemaine and of course, the Kerry football team throughout his life.

Peter had an encyclopedic knowledge of the games and in any argument about football he was always the first man to be consulted.

He also had a passion for music, especially Irish tunes. Peter loved playing the accordion and was always eager to discuss the dynamics of various tunes and to share them with others. Amongst his favourite musicians were Christy Moore, The Pogues and The Bothy Band.

Peter had a very caring nature and an amazing interest in his nephews and nieces. He took great pride in all of their achievements and to them he was always the "favourite" uncle.

Peter's untimely death has been a great shock to his family, relatives and friends. He will be sadly missed by all.

May he rest in peace.
