A quiet gentleman and a genius at figures
The late Maurice Harmon

Killorglin was saddened at the passing away of Maurice Harmon on Saturday, September 18. Maurice was the son of the late Mary and Bertie Harmon and brother of the late James Harmon of 25 Laune View Killorglin.

Maurice affectionately known as "Small Moss" to his friends was one of life's friendly gentlemen. He worked in Tralee with Loughran Reidy & Co for over 40 years and made many friends, through work and his driving companions whom he depended on everyday of his working life.

These friends will miss his figure waiting patiently for his lift from the fishery and from Ballymullen. He never thumbed as he had every lift calculated and knew everyone on the road. Moss had a unique sprightly walk and was always on the go, never staying in the one place for too long. He was a man of routine, always easy to find as most people knew where he should be at any given time.

Maurice was a great follower of the GAA, Laune Rangers, Mid- Kerry and of course, Kerry. Always a good man to seek out a ticket at the All-Ireland.
He was a former officer with Laune Rangers and with the Mid-Kerry Board and both organisations showed their appreciation with guards of honour on both days of his funeral. Moss lost his speech through an operation in March and accepted it admirably. He became a dab hand at texting in a very short time. Even when he was not feeling the best he insisted on going up the town of Killorglin to meet with his friends, Although he was unable to talk he communicated with sparkle and elegance that endeared him to all. Moss had a wonderful brain and was a genius at figures, he never missed an election count and was a reliable tally-man. He had a passion for cards - poker and 31 and he certainly knew his game.

Moss was quietly spoken but not afraid to give his opinion, but always felt if you didn't have something good to say, say nothing. He was a regular in church, had a great trust in the Lord and remained that way to the end.

He never complained even when he knew the pack was stacked against him, he bravely accepted his illness. Moss is sadly missed by his sisters Margaret and Ann, his brother Barry, sister-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces relatives and friends.
The Month's Mind mass for Maurice will be celebrated on October 28 at 6.30 pm in St James's Church. Killorglin. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
