The Late Tom Carmody

The death took place of Thomas (Tom) Carmody, St Brendan's Park, Tralee and formerly of Ardfert, on January 30, 2010 after a short illness.
Thomas, or Tom as he was better known by everybody, passed away peacefully at Kerry General Hospital surrounded by his family and extended family.
Tom was born in Ardfert on August 4, 1935 to Jeremiah and Mary Carmody. He was one of two sets of twins and was pre-deceased by his older brother Johnny.
Tom attended Ardfert National School, CBS The Green and Tralee Technical School, where he qualified as a mechanic. He then worked in Benner's garage and Blennerhassett's garage before he and his twin brother Mike started up their own business in Edward Street.
In 1962 Tom married Mary (Maura) Kelly of Fenit and they were blessed with four children.
Tom was a true GAA man at heart, who was a proud holder of a Kerry county minor football medal with St Brendan's in 1953. An avid follower of the hurl and sliotar he was a regular visitor to Thurles for Munster hurling finals.
His love of horse racing made him a regular visitor to Tralee, Listowel and Galway and every week at Tralee Greyhound Track, another of his passions.
Tom was a devoted family man with a kind and gentle heart who will be sadly missed by his loving wife Mary, his children Gerard, Ann, TJ and Brenda, his twin brother and lifelong friend Mike, sister Mary, nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Kate, brother in-law Brian, sons-in-law, daughters in-law an his nine grandchildren.
