The Late Donal O'Sullivan The late Donal ( Donie) O'Sullivan of 85 Ardshanavooley Estate, Killarney and also formerly of Dysart, Dromack, Mallow, Co. Cork, departed from this world peacefully on Saturday 28th March 2009, surrounded by his family in his own home. Donal was born on the 12th of May 1947 to his late parents Patrick and Margaret, the eldest of five children. After Donal's school years had passed he began his working life in Mallow and he later spent time working in Millstreet and Castleisland before joining Liebherr in Killarney in July 1971. It was Killarney that he met his wife Noreen ( nee Sugrue) in 1966. They married in July 1972 and had three children, Padraig, Gerard and Majella. He loved and adored them and worked hard all his life for them. In later years he also adored and cherished his three grandchildren- Jason, Adam and Rebekah. Even though Donal lived and worked in town, he was a country boy at heart. This was always obvious through his love of tractors, machinery, horses and farming life. Anyone who was fortunate enough to get to know Donal quickly realised that he was exceptionally hard working. Indeed thirty-eight years of service at Liebherr wasn't enough. There was Donie the doorman, the barman, the taxi driver, and even Donie the timbercutter. All would be too much for most people but for Donal it was a labour of love. Donal loved rising early, eagerly anticipating his day at the factory and the banter which he fondly recalled during his illness. He enjoyed his work and providing for his nearest and dearest was everything to him. Donal was keen interest in GAA. He played football and hurling for his club in his young days. He was a staunch supporter of the rebel teams of his native Cork in hurling and football even through his family were true Kerry supporters. There was always great banter in the house when Kerry and Cork were playing. Donal also enjoyed a small flutter on the horses and also a small wager on the lotto. Donal's last wishes were granted as he died at home with his family at his bedside. he was waked at home in the old traditional style. His remains were removed from O'Shea's Funeral Home to St. Mary's Cathedral where Requiem Mass took place on Monday, 30th of April. He was laid to rest in Aghadoe Cemetery. Donal will be forever missed and fondly remembered by his family and his wide circle of friends. May he rest in peace. Courtesy of the Kerry Eye 30th April 2009
