O'Donoghue, Mick

The late Mick O'Donoghue Locals were saddened at the death in the recent past in Castleisland of Mick O'Donoghue. A retired national teacher many will recall him playing for Desmonds, the district side, along with both the Kerry junior and seniors. Of course Mick will always be remembered for the part he played at corner back on the Erin's Hope team that defeated St.Vincents in the Dublin county final of 1956. Among the attendance at the removal of the remains from Tagney's Funeral Home were three of his team mates from that victory, Tom Long, Toss McKenna and Jer McQuinn. In recent years Mick did a lot of research at Kerry County library and in the process came across some interesting news items on Knocknagoshel. These he logged and very kindly passed them on to this scribe and I need not tell you how delighted we were to receive them. Courtesy of the Kerryman 30th July, 2008
