Kerry manager Peter Keane has stressed that they are much further ahead in their schedule than he expected his young guns to be at this time of the year.
Keane has claimed that he is surprised by their early season form that has seen them unbeaten in the opening two rounds of the FL1 campaign.
They put that record on the line when they travel to Healy Park, Omagh on Sunday to take on a Tyrone side hurting from their defeat to Monaghan last weekend.
Keane is taking Kerry’s good start to the National League all in his stride and he told the Ulster Herald that he is pleasantly surprised by their start.
“I didn’t wake up in January thinking it would be great to have three points out of four, but we’ll take it. We’ve obviously started much later this year. We’ve a lot less done than we would have had at this stage last year. So, there are changes, there are things that are different,” said Keane.
“Three matches in a row is whirlwind. A fella picking up an injury now could mean missing the rest of the league. The turnaround is very demanding.”
Looking to Sunday’s clash against Tyrone in Omagh, the Kerry boss admitted it was a tough place to go to get a result.
“We all know Tyrone’s set up, it is well rehearsed at this stage. The key is to stay composed and keep to your game plan, but they have posed problems for Kerry teams in the past, no doubt.”
