Former Kerry star Bryan Sheehan expects new county senior football boss Peter Keane to bring an attacking approach with the Munster champions next year.

St Mary’s clubman Keane was officially ratified as Eamonn Fitzmaurice’s successor on Monday night, with Donie Buckley, Maurice Fitzgerald, Tommy Griffin and James Foley all confirmed as being part of his backroom team.

Speaking to RTE Sport, Sheehan described the three-in-a-row All-Ireland winning minor boss as “a purist” but says only time will tell whether or not his club-mate's reign with the Kingdom’s seniors is a success.

"From what I have seen of Peter there are never sweepers involved, it was open attacking football,” said the five-time All-Ireland winner.

“But that was going back to 2010-2011 and football has changed dramatically, particularly in the last four to five years, never mind seven to eight years.

"The unfortunate thing with Kerry is there is pressure on and down here we do look for success.

"Peter is a purist and he likes to play attacking football, if you look at the last few minor teams, minor football is very much 15 on 15, the corner forward is the corner forward and he is not going to track back the field, so it is obviously different and only time will tell."

There are fifteen county finals taking place this weekend with ten of those in football. Join our match tracker on Sunday afternoon for live updates from around the county grounds.
