Kerry minor boss Peter Keane has emerged as the early favourite to succeed Eamonn Fitzmaurice as the county's next senior football manager.

The Irish Independent reports today that Keane, who has overseen the Kingdom's last two All-Ireland MFC victories, is one of the front-runners to succeed Fitzmaurice, who stepped down following his team's elimination from the championship on Saturday evening.

Also being heavily linked with the vacant post is county U20 manager Jack O'Connor, who has worked with a handful of stars on the current panel during his own tenure as minor boss, as well as Tipperary supremo and Tralee native Liam Kearns.

Kerry scored a 12-point victory over Kildare last Saturday in Killarney but it wasn't enough to earn them a berth in the semi-finals as Monaghan's double scores win against Galway in Salthill ensured they advanced through to the last four for the first time since 1988.
