Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice has stepped down from his post following his team's elimination from the All-Ireland senior football championship this evening.

Kerry county board have confirmed the news in wake of the Kingdom's 12-point victory over Kildare in Killarney which wasn't enough to see them into the semi-finals after Monaghan's win in Salthill this evening.

Fitzmaurice took over the reins of his home county in 2012 and steered them to All-Ireland glory in 2014, having been previously involved  with the team as a selector.

Kerry also landed six Munster titles in-a-row during his tenure but tonight he has informed the media at Fitzgerald Stadium that he will no longer be staying on in the county's hot seat.

With heavy heart we announce that our Manager Éamonn Fitzmaurice has stepped down. We cannot thank @efitz6 enough for all he has done for Kerry GAA. He is a gentleman to the core and has given everything for the cause. We wish Éamonn and his family all the best
