Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael Aogán Ó Fearghail has paid tribute to the late Tony Keady after the former Galway All-Ireland winner's passing in the early hours of this morning.

Keady won back-to-back Liam McCarthy Cups in 1987 and 1988, winning the Hurler of the Year award in the latter year after starring in one of the greatest half-back line's in the history of the sport.

Ó Fearghail described him as "a superb hurler" and offered his condolences to his wife Margaret and their four children.

"Tony was an inspirational figure on one of the greatest Galway teams of all time," the Cavan native is quoted saying by GAA.ie.

"He was a superb hurler, who relished the challenge of performing on the big day and he was a leader to those around him.

"A back to back All-Ireland winner, a two-time All-Star and Hurler of the Year in 1988, he achieved everything there was to achieve in the game and still retained an incredible passion for hurling that saw him attend so many Galway matches, up to and including last Sunday's clash with Tipperary.

"I offer my condolences and those of the wider GAA family to his wife Margaret and their four children Shannon, Anthony, Harry and Jake, their wider family and circle of friends, his club Killimordaly and Galway GAA."
