Waterford defender Shane Fives is in no doubt that they need to produce a better performance against Cork on Sunday than they did in the Munster SHC.

Since that defeat, Waterford have bounced back and a first win over Kilkenny since the late 1950s has been a huge boost to their confidence while they got past Wexford in the All-Ireland quarterfinal.

Nonetheless, they will have to improve even further if they are to see off the challenge of a rejuvenated Cork side that arguably have been the most impressive side on show to date.

Fives forms part of a solid full back line as he prepares for his fourth outing at Croke Park, but the venue doesn't mean much when you are at this stage of the championship.

“When it comes to a game like that, you don't really care. We'd go out and play it in the back garden if we had to. You just want to get on with it,” Fives told the Waterford News & Star.

He added that the underdogs tag will suit them on Sunday afternoon. “It probably does. Most people say that being underdogs suits you better. We're just looking for a performance, we weren't happy with it the last day we played Cork. If we get that right, we have a good chance on Sunday.”
