Lee Chin has described the eight-week ban handed down to Davy Fitzgerald as 'very harsh'.

The Wexford manager received the lengthy suspension following his controversial pitch encroachment during the Allianz Hurling League semi-final against Tipperary nearly a fortnight ago.

"I think, in my opinion, it was harsh," Chin told the Irish Daily Star at yesterday's launch of the John West Feile competitions in Croke Park.

"But you've just got to accept what's happening at the moment.

"Obviously, people have been talking about it at home. You walk anywhere and people are asking about it, but reaction is a lot of people think it's very harsh and obviously they'd like to see Davy on the sidelines, but unfortunately that's not going to be the case for the first two championship games.

"But look, it is what it is, we've just got to deal with it and Wexford people just have to deal with it too."

The Wexford joint-captain praised his manager for offering to assist Jason Forde - who he was involved in a shoving match with - with his appeal against his two-match ban.

"Of course I would feel sorry for the player. I know Davy has put out a helping hand as well," he continued.

"I read somewhere on social media over the last couple of days that Davy is willing to assists Jason in terms of his appeal. I think it was just heat of the moment, it's just pure passion. It's an incident that happened that was a bit unfortunate I suppose and Jason was just the closest player to it at the time.

"I think any Tipp player would have got engaged."
