Six men have been nominated for the vacant Galway senior hurling managerial post.

Former minor and U-21 manager John Hardiman has emerged as the new front-runner for the job, taking over from Mattie Kenny, who was over the Cuala side which were beaten in Sunday's Leinster SHC club final, and Micheal Donoghue of Clarinbridge.

Outgoing U21 manager Johnny Kelly, who steered Coolderry to an Offaly county title this year, has also been nominated, along with two-time All-Ireland SHC winner Gerry McInerney - a former team mate of ex-manager Anthony Cunningham.

Kiltormer man Justin Campbell is the sixth name put forward by Galway's clubs to succeed Cunningham, having managed Roscommon this past season and earned All-Ireland success with his club during his playing career. He is also set to manage Connacht in this weekend's interprovincial championship at Pearse Stadium.
