Limerick hurling manager TJ Ryan has been dealt a blow with the news that David Breen will not be available for selection in 2016.

Breen confirmed the news to Ryan this week that he would be calling time on his inter-county career, citing work commitments as the main reason.

The 30-year-old, who works as physiotherapist with Leinster rugby, indicated to the42.ie that he would be open to a return if his circumstances change but for now is concentrating on work, along with Na Piarsaigh's All-Ireland club SHC semi-final.

"There were a few different reasons but it was mainly work," said Breen.

"I picked up a few bad injuries there over the last 8-10 weeks which kept me out of the Limerick county final and the Munster championship with Na Piarsaigh.

"It just got to a stage where I couldn't do both at the standards that I wanted. Work was always going to come before hurling for me."

Breen has been a regular for Limerick since making his senior debut with the Shannonsiders in 2009 before being nominated as team captain in 2012 by then manager John Allen.
