IT Carlow 0-16

UCC 0-13

DJ Carey guided IT Carlow to back-to-back Higher Education Senior Hurling League Division 1 titles at the expense of UCC at WIT's Carriganore ground last night.

Laois' Stephen 'Picky' Maher and Kilkenny's Chris Bolger bagged 0-11 between them as the holders produced a strong second half showing to see off their much-fancied Leeside opponents. The teams were level seven times during the first half before Anthony Spillane's point gave UCC a slender 0-9 to 0-8 interval lead.

Further scores from Alan Cadogan and Barry Lawton extended UCC's advantage on the restart, but with Bolger, Maher, Kevin Kelly and captain Kevin Hannafin from Kerry to the fore, IT Carlow finished the stronger, despite losing full back Tommy Gallagher to a second yellow card late on.
