Wicklow's Jonathan O'Neill

Wicklow veteran Jonathan O'Neill has decided to hang up his hurl after a staggering 23 years in the county jersey.

O'Neill, better known as Bosco to his friends, made the announcement following Wicklow's Christy Ring Cup relegation play-off final win over Mayo at Cusack Park, Mullingar last Saturday afternoon.

The Glenealy man has been Wicklow's talisman for many, many years, getting vital scores to help win matches and he signed off with two points against the Connacht side last weekend.

O'Neill's list of honours at county level include an All-Ireland 'B' title, 5 Kehoe Cups and NHL titles in 2A, 3A and 3B, plus Christy Ring Cup All-Stars.

Wicklow are certainly heading into a transitional period now as they seek not only new players, but a new manager as well after Casey O'Brien also stood down last weekend.
