Limerick free-taker Shane Dowling bizarrely claimed that a late point he scored against Clare should have been waved wide.

Dowling wasn't the only one in Semple Stadium who thought his 62nd minute free was off target, but the RTE replays indicated that the ball had gone inside the post, with the score proving to be the difference between the sides at the final whistle.

"If I don't sum it up, The Sunday Game will. The free above now - it should have been a draw game. The stats went like that," he said in the Irish Daily Mirror.

"That's the way your luck goes. Limerick (minors) got done in Croke Park with Hawk-Eye, so maybe we deserved a bit of luck."

Dowling also insisted that Seanie Tobin's red card - which he received just seconds after entering the fray - was harsh.

"If they want to bring in some padding or something, let them on. I don't blame [referee] Colm Lyons and I don't blame the referees. It's the hierarchy that are bringing that in," he added.
