Donal Og Cusack was interviewed on Sky News this morning about tomorrow's Marriage Equality Referendum.

The GPA chairman and former Cork hurling goalkeeper, who was the first GAA star to publicly reveal he was gay in 2008, told presenter Eamonn Holmes that he was hopeful the 'Yes' campaign would succeed.

"The polls are looking as if tomorrow is going to be a pretty historic day," the Cloyne man stated.

"Having said that, I think even your own elections lately probably raised some question marks over polls, so I don't want to sound over-confident. But unless the polls are getting it even more wrong than they got it in the UK elections, it looks as if it's going to be a historic day for the country."

Cusack also spoke of his experiences as a gay man in Ireland, noting that it was "actually illegal to be gay" when he was attending secondary school.

The GPA has publicly declared its support for a 'Yes' vote, as have a number of high-profile GAA personalities, including Dublin's Rory O'Carroll, Donegal's Eamon McGee and former Tipperary hurling manager Michael 'Babs' Keating.

Among those who are backing the 'No' campaign are Tipperary hurler Kieran Bergin and Dublin footballer Ger Brennan.
