"We don't generate money for Croke Park, so we're no good to them."

Tyrone manager Mattie Lennon has launched a scathing attack on the GAA for its treatment of the weaker hurling counties.

Despite winning Division 3A, the Red Hands were denied promotion to Division 2B on Saturday when losing the promotion / relegation play-off to Donegal and Lennon is becoming increasingly disillusioned:

"Croke Park had a committee set up to look at hurling, but all they dealt with was the low-hanging fruit, the easy option," the Armagh man scoffs in The Irish News.

"Where the tough bits are, where hurling needs to be looked at, nobody has done anything. That is a fact. I only deal in facts. I have been involved in Armagh, Monaghan and Tyrone and the same problem arises in those counties.

"But, you see, we don't generate money for Croke Park, so we're no good to them.

"It's a disgrace we have to play in a play-off after winning our league. Those guys in Croke Park, I don't know who makes these rules or why they make them. They're supposed to be trying to promote hurling in these counties. But that's not promoting hurling.

"That's not looking out for players' welfare either. None of the top counties would be asked to play three finals in a week. It just shows what they think of hurling in Ulster. It's pure lip service, ticking boxes. It's nothing else - ticking boxes to get it out of the way."
