Cork's Sean Og O'hAilpin

Seán Óg Ó hAilpín has retired from club hurling.

The 37-year-old Cork legend, who retired from inter-county hurling in 2012, confirmed his decison on Newstalk's 'Off The Ball' programme last night.

"That's it for me now," he said.

"Twenty years done of club hurling now and happy enough with my lot. Let the new breed of Na Piarsiagh hurler drive on."

Ó hAilpín won two Cork SHC medals with Na Piarsaigh in 1995 and 2004. His other accolades include three All-Ireland hurling and five Munster hurling medals, and one Munster football title. He captained the Rebels to All-Ireland glory in 2005 and is also the holder of three All Star awards.

Born in Fiji, he was awarded the Freedom of Cork in 2011 in recognition of his contribution to Cork GAA.

He recently announced his engagement to long-time girlfriend Siobhan Quirke.

Seán Óg's club-mate and Cork star Christopher Joyce has wished him well on his retirement.
