There was good news in Clare this week following the green light being given for redevelopment work on Cusack Park, but the news is not so good for clubs in the county.

The proposed €2.3 million development at Cusack Park is to go-ahead as planned, but to help pay back the loan, clubs will be requested to pay a levy over the next ten years.

Michael Curtin, chairman of the county board's audit committee revealed the breakdown of the funding to county board delegates.

"The indications are that we will get €700,000 by way of a grant from Central and Munster Council. We want permission to borrow €800,000 which, at a rate of 5% to 5.5% per annum will cost us €108,000," said Curtin.

"We have to get this work done. It's a health and safety issue. We, the clubs, are the board and we will have to pay for it. There will have to be a contribution from the clubs by the way of a levy."

The Clare Champion reports that the levy will be in the region of €1,000 for each club.
