McNaughton sick of GAA knockers

Antrim's Shane McNaughton
Antrim hurler Shane McNaughton is sick and tired of people bashing the GAA.

The Cushendall clubman - whose side face Laois in the Leinster SHC tomorrow night - feels that every time he opens a newspaper or switches on his PC, somebody is having a go at the Association:

"You have to take a step back sometimes," he says in The Irish News. "It is the best sporting organisation in the world. It is an amateur sporting organisation.

"There are not an awful lot of people in the GAA getting paid and it is being run very well, from the groundsmen to us players, to the secretaries in the counties. You have to go the same way and work together.

"You read stuff all the time about people blasting the GAA. It is not fair because it is run on a volunteer basis and everyone is doing the best job they can.

"I don't want to be criticising things when I am playing and a lot of columns tend to criticise. There is always criticism but there is a lot of good going on everywhere that nobody seems to mention.

"I'd rather focus on that. There is no point in blabbering about what is going wrong."
