JJ Delaney scoops Man of the Match award

September 05, 2011
JJ Delaney was last night named as the RTE Man of the Match following his brilliant All-Ireland hurling final performance.

The Fenians clubman saw off stiff competition from fellow half back Tommy Walsh and midfielder Michael Fennelly to scoop the prestigious award, which was presented to him at the Kilkenny team's base in the WestCity Hotel. Delaney also received a pair of flight tickets to Abu Dhabi courtesy of All-Ireland hurling sponsors Ethiad Airways.

The Man of the Match was chosen by RTE panellists Anthony Daly, Michael Duignan and John Henderson.

Meanwhile, in a straw poll among an extended studio panel which included Clare's Seanie McMahon, Cathal Moore of Galway, Wexford's Tom Dempsey, Len Gaynor of Tipperary, Offaly's Joe Dooley, Dublin's Joey Boland and Fergal Hartley of Waterford, Michael Fennelly was chosen as Hurler of the Year, while Dublin's Liam Rushe was the panel's choice as Young Hurler of the Year.
