GAA to introduce website for refs

February 02, 2011

The GAA will this year implement a website especially for referees in a bid to improve communications with match officials.

Access to the site, which is believed to be under development at the moment, will be restricted to referees on the national panels.

According to a report in Wednesday's Irish Times, the website will include relevant video clips to highlight areas of confusion and point the whistlers in the right direction.

With no experimental rules in place, there is expected to be no repeat of last year's widespread confusion about rule changes in the National Leagues and early stages of the Championship, but the Association still wants to adopt novel ways both to increase understanding and reduce errors from match officials.

The GAA's national match officials manager, Pat Doherty, told the newspaper, "This isn't about criticising referees or highlighting their mistakes, but rather offer further support and means for studying various incidents that might arise over the season."
