Galway manager Padraig Joyce has heaped praise on his young charges following their good start to the FL1 campaign.

With three rounds played, the Tribesmen have four points, level at the top alongside Dublin and Tyrone as they prepare to take on the latter this weekend.

The former All-Ireland winner looks to have rejuvenated the side since being appointed as manager late last year, but he stressed to the Ulster Herald that it is all down to the players’ attitudes.

“The players are showing really good courage and real desire. They want to play for Galway and that’s a huge thing for us,” said Joyce.

“It has been questioned in Galway before – having heart and character and if we had the bottle for these matches.”

He added: “A successful year one would be to win the national league and then win the All-Ireland. That is our aim. That is what we are aiming for straight away.”
