Galway captain Padraig Mannion is in no doubt that the current league format will be very beneficial during the summer months.

This Sunday, Galway welcome the All-Ireland SHC champions Tipperary to Pearse Stadium, Salthill and the games don’t come much bigger than that.

Days like these are why Mannion plays inter-county hurling and he told the Connacht Tribune that there is nothing like playing the top teams.

“It’s great to be playing the top teams in the league and to be getting these games early on and getting exposed to that level of hurling early on,” said Mannion.

“Obviously when you’re playing a hurling game, you have that extra little bit of want to try and put in a performance when you’ve your home crowd there.”

The Allianz Hurling League returns this weekend, make sure you join the hoganstand.com match tracker for live scores from the third round of games.
