Galway midfielder Thomas Flynn has admitted that the family is very much a split camp when it comes to Sunday’s Connacht SFC final against Roscommon.

Flynn, who has nailed down a starting berth in midfield against the Rossies, has family in both counties as his father Tom hails from Woodmount which is the Roscommon side of Ballinasloe.

His mother too has divided loyalties as she hails from the border between Roscommon and Galway and Flynn revealed to the Connacht Tribune that it all makes for some great banter in the lead up to games between the two counties.

“There does be great craic with Mum and Dad and all their brothers,” said Flynn, who has grown up in Athenry.

“While Dad is a Galway supporter by now, there are a few of them (family) who are mad Roscommon supporters. They would not have been happy to see us win those two (Connacht titles) in previous meetings. So it is good fun.”
