The mind games have begun ahead of next month's huge Connacht SFC quarter-final between Mayo and Galway with Andy Moran suggesting that the Tribesmen are favourites to prevail.

A resurgent Galway enjoyed an impressive run to the recent Allianz Football League final and the veteran Mayo forward told Newstalk's Off The Ball: "I wouldn't be the type of person that would push favouritism on anyone, but if you look at the curve and the stats understandably Galway are favourites, but we [Mayo] like the big games.

"Obviously, the priority is to go through the front door, but the back door has its benefits. You're playing week-in week-out, but the danger is you're only allowed one slip-up and we saw last year with Cork and Derry, that slip-up nearly came.

"Again, the priority is to go through the front, but if it doesn't happen for either Galway or Mayo in five weeks time, I won't believe it's the end of the summer for either of the teams."
