Connacht CEO John Prenty has explained why spectators weren't refunded after Sunday's Mayo-Galway game was postponed.
The Connacht SFL clash in Castlebar was called off at the eleventh hour after the MacHale Park pitch failed to thaw out adequately and departing punters were left doubly disappointed when they discovered that - as well as having to match to watch - they wouldn't get their money back either.
"You'd probably need a float of €20,000 to cater for that," Prenty points out in The Irish Times. "It's a security issue and we move cash on during the afternoon.
"National policy is not to give a refund on the day but to give people a ticket for the refixture. We extended that and gave people a voucher to go to whatever game they wanted to in the competition.
"If they're genuinely unable to attend another fixture, they come back to us with the voucher that was issued and we'll give out a refund. Obviously if people were just back for Christmas we'll look after them."
