1st Round of League games due in Louth this weekend, Sun 12th

County board meeting on 7th, all cancelled as the county team have a big game against Armagh the next week.

Its as if, they never knew they were playing Armagh on 19th until the other night.

The club game farce starts off as usual in Louth.

This has nothing to do with congress. It's the louth county board.

This happens in a lot of counties. There is a county player rule which means games can be called off and rearranged if a club has a county player who is not released from the county team, it's crazy stuff on paper but I can understand why a club wouldn't want a game to go ahead without their star man, especially smaller clubs.

Cant believe I have to explain this , I never said it was anything to do with congress , but after all the talk AT congress re club games and fixtures you'd think the Louth county board be more hesitant to do this ****

its an absolute joke, lads having decided to make themselves available for this weekend weeks in advance to be told of a Wednesday before hand that the games are off.

I understand why clubs wouldn't play without their county lads absolutely, but the average club player cant expect to commit to a club with this kind of carry on, especially in modern society where many work abroad and many stags and events are abroad.

No defo not, I know lads in Donegal that have had games pulled at last minute. Not sure what current rules are up there.

time for clubs to go on strike, pay up on player injury scheme and gaa membership fees but withhold all other charges levied by county boards until the club players / fixtures sre treated with respect. See how long before central council calls an egm to sort out something that is going to kill the club game off especially outside the bigger urban areas, how come other sports can produce a master fixtures plan which gives everyone involved an idea of when games can be played and no need for maverick managers at club and county level imposing stupid bans on player conduct. Do they not realise that they are treating grown players and supporters like children and with utter contempt. Stop the funds and things will soon change if not then this status quo will continue for longer than the band.

There are subsidiary competitions being played at the moment in Louth. The county board in their wisdom saw fit to fix a round of league games for the week before the fifth round of the NFL . This was a ridiculous decision for a number of reasons . Firstly the fifth round of the NFL is pivotal . No team is either relegated or promoted and every team has something to play for . After the fifth game things become a lot clearer in the NFL. Secondly the Louth County Board wanted to fix this round of league games in isolation and not play another round of league fixtures for another month . The leagues in Louth are single round leagues. Teams only play 11 games . In Armagh and Monaghan the leagues are double round leagues . Monaghan clubs play 18 league games and Armagh clubs play 14 league games. . The leagues in Armagh and Monaghan start the week after the NFL finishes . The games are then played week in week out . The Louth County Board's decision to schedule this round of club league fixtures was crazy . They should have scheduled subsidiary league fixtures for this weekend . The subsidiary competitions should be played to a conclusion and the league should be started on the weekend after the NFL is over for Louth . DundalkGael, I read your post on the Louth forum and I have great sympathy for you . I also have sympathy for Colin Kelly . The Louth County Board are the ones responsible for this mess .

Sorry this is nothing but the clubs (and players) fault themselves. Clubs elect the CB etc.

Full round of league games here this weekend with county players in action.

The only games where county players don't take part are league games, known as star games, the week before the county team plays in the championship.

People harp on all the time saying "Croke Park should do this...Croke Park should to that...", but decisions like this show that the problem is not "Croke Park". As long as individual county boards, supported by club delegates grant postponements like this, the "plight" of the club player will NEVER be sorted out.

Muckross that might be the case now but I know there were times in the recent past up there during Jims days were there were fixtures rescheduled more than a week in advance of an inter county game. And while I'm sure it has improved I'm sure you are aware that the Donegal county board rescheduled a load of this weekends fixtures to all take place on the Sunday, despite many of them being confirmed for Saturday only a few weeks back. I know one team now missing a couple of players as they can't rearrange their schedule. Silly stuff.
